Microsoft will compensate Yahoo! through a revenue sharing agreement on traffic generated on Yahoo!’s network of both owned and operated (O&O) and affiliate sites.
•

Microsoft will pay traffic acquisition costs (TAC) to Yahoo! at an initial rate of 88% of search revenue generated on Yahoo!’s O&O sites during the first 5 years of the agreement.
•

Yahoo! will continue to syndicate its existing search affiliate partnerships.
•

Microsoft will guarantee Yahoo!’s O&O revenue per search (RPS) in each country for the first 18 months following initial implementation in that country.
•

At full implementation (expected to occur within 24 months following regulatory approval), Yahoo! estimates, based on current levels of revenue and current operating expenses, that this agreement will provide a benefit to annual GAAP operating income of approximately $500 million and capital expenditure savings of approximately $200 million. Yahoo! also estimates that this agreement will provide a benefit to annual operating cash flow of approximately $275 million.
•

The agreement protects consumer privacy by limiting the data shared between the companies to the minimum necessary to operate and improve the combined search platform, and restricts the use of search data shared between the companies. The agreement maintains the industry-leading privacy practices that each company follows today.

Lets face it, dom har inte en chans emot Google oavsett så?
Varför lägger inte alla ner sina sökmotorer och börjar utveckla barnspel eller något istället?

Om jag förstår det rätt så ska Yahoo alltså gå över till Bings motor, och Microsoft tar på sig att koppypejsta Yahoo:s algoritmer in i Bing-motorn? I slutänden kommer ju Microsoft köpa upp Yahoo i alla fall, alternativt så fortsätter Yahoo vara en frontend till Bing för all framtid.

Har jag tolkat det rätt?

Yahoo är så mycket mer än bara en sökmotor. Det var inte så många år sedan (2004) som det stod powered by Google när man sökte via Yahoo.

Microsoft får nu tillgång till Yahoo:s sökmotoralgoritmer som i sin tur är baserade på AltaVista och AlltheWeb.

Det jag är mest intresserad är vad som händer med Yahoo BOSS, någon som vet?
Även vad som händer med andra sök-API:er..

Säg inte det, enligt din profil var du med i slutet av 90-talet och då tänkte ju folk precis likadant om uppstickare som började konkurrera med den dominerande sökmotorn Altavista. Det är möjligt att just Bing inte har en chans, men att anse att de borde lägga ner alla sina sökmotorer försämrar ju även Google. Genom att Google har konkurrens så tvingas de ju vidarutveckla sin tjänst. Se hur det blev med de ryska bilmärkena utan konkurrens, SKIT. "Varför förbättra produkten? Folk har ju ändå bara oss att välja på".

Jag tror mycket väl (och hoppas innerligt) de kan ha en chans mot Google om de spelar sina kort rätt. Yahoo är fortfarande stora i många delar av världen och är så mycket mer än bara en sökmotor, något många ofta glömmer.

Någon måste klara av att stångas med Google, monopol är aldrig bra, det har vi sett alltför många exempel på redan.

Sen behöver inte MS & Yahoo vara ute efter att ta över Googles position, de kan mycket väl vara nöjda med att tillsammans säkra en andra placering istället för att det ska glida dem ur händerna.

Microsoft lär väl rövknulla Yahoo precis som dom gjorde med Spyglass Mosaic när dom köpte licens för koden 1995, för att kunna lansera MSIE...
